Portrait and Figure Artist using traditional oil painting techniques. Humans relate to images of other humans, particularly faces, on a visceral, subconscious level. This is the enigma of the attraction of portraiture, people are drawn to apply their interpretation and meaning. In this way I strive to portray the emotion of the person who I’m painting either through their expression or by bringing in space or chiaroscuro into the picture in order to enable viewer to read into the picture and perhaps dream into the underlying feelings or thoughts of the person.
Hopper, Vettriano and Degas are some artists who have inspired my work. More contemporary and locally I acknowledge the work of Emma Simcock Tooth.
